Dr. Paula Furr: Department Head & Associate Professor

Thanks for your interest in the Department of Journalism at Northwestern State University!

Our program of study leads to the Bachelor of Arts in journalism. You will take courses in media writing, communications law, communications research, new media, graphic design, video production and so much more. Whether you want to be a TV reporter, reporter for online or print publications, public relations specialist, producer of films or commercials, or another of the varied careers in journalism and mass communications, NSU is the right choice. Please, contact us to find out more about the curriculum.

For those who will study on campus, we offer student media activities and organizations that provide hands-on experiences. While here you can work with the student newspaper, yearbook, radio station, and TV station. And you can do it while attending one of the South's most dynamic universities!

For those who cannot attend classes on the Natchitoches campus, we offer an online degree program. Adults returning to school are encouraged to contact Electronic and Continuing Education for information about Prior Learning Assessment and possible college credits.

Whatever your career goal or educational needs, our program provides the up-to-date preparation needed to succeed.

Most importantly, our faculty and staff are dedicated to working with students. We want to get to know you and to extend our relationship with you long after you graduate.

Please, come visit the department so we can give you a "peek" at what awaits you. During the past half-century years, more than 700 students have earned bachelor's degrees in journalism from Northwestern. We hope you'll join this group.

When visiting our Natchitoches campus, please stop by our office located at 103 Kyser Hall. You may also contact us by phoning (318) 357.4425 or 1.800.256.8025, or by e-mailing Journalism@nsula.edu
