• Important Student Information •
-
Journalism Adviser - Your journalism adviser will help you plan classes, avoid common college pitfalls and ensure you complete required classes to graduate.
We encourage you to meet with and get to know your adviser. That relationship will last throughout your time at NSU and often after you graduate.
-
Student Organizations and Student Media - Become involved in student journalism organizations and student media. You will get to know your fellow journalism majors, establish friendships, meet professional journalists and gain useful experience. These activities also can strengthen your resume for employment after graduation. The department sponsors student chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the Public Relations Association of Lousisiana (PRAL). Student media include the newspaper, Current Sauce; the yearbook, Potpourri; and the campus radio station, KNWD 91.7 FM. The University’s literary magazine, Argus, is housed in the University's Department of Language and Communications, Room 318 Kyser Hall.
-
Stay Informed - Please, frequent the department’s Reading Room in Kyser Hall, Room 103. Here you will find newspapers, magazines, and academic journals related to our field. You can also watch the news, both commercial or our NSU TV weekly newscasts, or use the computer to go online for news and information.
-
Keep Your Books - In general, you should think about starting and maintaining your professional library. That means keeping your journalism textbooks and your binders of materials accumulated for each class. Later in your professional life, you may find yourself referring to these!
