Dr. Paula Furr

Paula Furr, department head and an associate professor, joined the journalism department faculty in August 2000 as an assistant professor. A retired U.S. Army public affairs officer with six years' teaching experience at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY, and two years' teaching experience at Louisiana College in Pineville, La., Furr brings more than 30 years of professional and academic experience to the department. Because Furr's doctorate is in educational technology, she is particularly interested in integrating technology into teaching, in distance learning, and in media convergence. Good writing and clear thinking are important objectives for any class she teaches. She attributes her focus on these to her solid undergraduate and graduate programs in journalism from Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Kansas. At West Point, she taught freshman and advanced composition and often presented professional writing classes to senior military and civilian officials. She has served as a faculty consultant for the Educational Testing Services Advanced Placement Examinations in English.

Above all, Furr loves teaching and helping students succeed in school and in later mass communications careers by helping them master needed skills and attributes.
