Academics:

The Department of Journalism at Northwestern State University now offers a converged program in media studies and an online program. These programs lead to a Bachelor of Arts with a Journalism major.
Along with a university core and liberal arts requirement, each student must complete a set of Journalism core courses and electives, which will prepare them for the many career opportunities in journalism and mass media. A minor outside of journalism is also required.
Students are encouraged to complete an internship, considered vital in bridging academic studies and professional work. Northwestern students have completed internships at prominent national and regional organizations, with many internships leading to employment. Although students are responsible for securing their internship positions, the faculty will guide and assist them.
Please, contact the department for more information on specific courses or call us at (800) 256.8025. We want to help you plan your courses and advise you throughout your program of study.
